On behalf of the World Flying Disc Federation, I am pleased to release theWFDF Rules of Ultimate 2009.
The 2009 rules are here:
http://wfdf.org/index.php?sport_id=1&page=rules/index.htm#ultimate
The rules are fit to be implemented in any competition commencing on or
after the 14 March 2009, but it is up to National Associations and
individual event organisers to decide when to introduce the rules. We
would of course encourage you to implement them as soon as possible to
avoid confusion amongst your players.
In order to help the transition, we have produced a Summary of Changes
which outlines in plain English the changes to the rules since last year.
This document should suffice as a briefing to your players when introducing
the rules into competition. Avid rules readers will delve into the rules
proper to gain a full understanding of the rules.
Summary of Changes:
http://wfdf.org/rules/WFDF%20Rules%20of%20Ultimate%202009%20-%20Summary%20of%20Changes.pdf
In that summary of changes, I'd like to draw your attention to the
experimental rule being proposed by the rules committee to change the pick
rule. We would love to encourage debate and experimentation with this
rule, with a view to including this change in the 2010 Rules.
WFDF will centrally manage the effort of translating the rules. If you are
interested in helping with translations, please contact WFDF Executive
Director, Kevin "Skippy" Givens on kevin dot givens at wfdf dot org.
I'd like to thank the WFDF Ultimate Rules Committee and those who
contributed to the public forum, for their input into the rules process.
I'd especially like to acknowledge the contribution of the Rules
Secretariat – Flo Pfender, Simon Hill, Rueben Berg and Ru Veitl. The
Secretariat has literally put hundreds of hours of their time into
improving the rules for the tens of thousands of players who use them
around the world on a daily basis. Thank you.
Also, in consideration of my new duties as President, I am taking this
opportunity to step down from the Chair of the Rules Committee. We will
announce a replacement soon. I'd like to that everyone who has
contributed to the progress of the rules over the past two years, and hope
that we can continue to produce such a high quality ruleset for our
players.
