The new WFDF Rules of Ultimate (Version 2007)
is finally completed and approved!
It will be effective on April 1, 2007 for all WFDF sanctioned tournaments.
We would like to ask all our members to implement these rules as quickly as possible.
Bill Wright Recognized for Two Decades of Contributions to WFDF

Bill Wright was presented with a token of appreciation for his substantial contributions to WFDF and all flying disc sports for over two decades. Bill served as WFDF President from 1994 to 2004. Prior to that, he chaired both the WFDF Freestyle Committee and the Freestyle Players Association for nine years. Even after stepping down from his formal leadership role, he continued to selflessly provide administrative assistance to WFDF through early 2006.
Galactic MTA Record Set on Space Shuttle Discovery

December 15, 2006 was a historic day for space exploration and for disc players everywhere. One of our own, Christer Fuglesang (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christer_Fuglesang) of Sweden is currently aboard the Space Shuttle Discovery.
Christer was live broadcasted on the national Swedish channel TV4, and as part of that program he also attempted two MTA "throws" in the zero gravity of the shuttle. The first try got away from him, but the second attempt was timed at 20.52 seconds by Flight Engineer Thomas Reiter (ESA) of Germany.
European Space Agency to host MTA world record attempt in space

On Friday, December 15th, the European Space Agency is the host of a unique sporting event. Supported by the World Flying Disc Federation, the Swedish Frisbee Sport Federation are proud to sanction this unprecedented event. Christer Fuglesang, ESA astronaut on the Space Shuttle Discovery Mission STS-116, will attempt to break the world record in the flying disc sporting discipline MTA, Maximum Time Aloft. The competition will start at seven minutes past seven GMT in the evening of Friday, December 15th, 2006. We believe that this is the first ever sanctioned sports event that takes place in space.
WFDF 2007 Rules of Ultimate draft available for comment

A draft version of the WFDF 2007 Rules of Ultimate is available for comment. We have set up a forum at http://groups.google.com/group/wfdf-2007-rules
for public comment. It is not expected that major changes will make it into the 2007 version at this late stage, but all comments will be taken into account when drafting the 2008 version. The 2007 rules are expected to be approved for release early in the new year.
WFDF invites proposals for 1st Asia Pacific Ultimate Championships

As follow-up to a successful WFDF Asia-Oceanic regional meeting held at the World Ultimate Club Championships in Perth, WFDF is sending out this request for proposals to host the First WFDF Asia Pacific Ultimate Championships (APUC) to be held in the second half of 2007.
WFDF appoints new Executive Director

WFDF would like to announce it’s newly appointed Executive Director, Anne-Marie Carey. She will be taking on the part time position (approximately 20 hours per week) which involves administrative/organizational functions, communications and event management roles with WFDF.

The World Flying Disc Federation is proud to call for nominations for the 2016 WFDF Athletes` Commission elections to be held during the World Ultimate and Guts Championships 2016 in London.
Please refer to the information linked here on tasks of the Commission and conditions for nominations. Nominations must be sent to WFDF under ed(at)wfdf.org no later than 8 June 2016 and include a disc sport related CV.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to present its final call for new grants applications for 2016. For 2016, out of a total development budget of US,000, US,000 is budgeted for individual grants to the community, with individual grants limited to no more than US,500 each. WFDF also hopes to expand this year its disc missionary program, providing discs to travelers to areas with limited disc activity.

WFDF is pleased to announce that the Slovak Association of Frisbee (SAF) was accepted as a full member of the Slovak Olympic Committee (SOC). The SAF membership was accepted during the 49th general assembly of SOC on 22nd April 2016, per the notice provided by SAF Secretary General Martin Keseg to WFDF.
“We are excited to announce this great news for the Flying Disc community in Slovakia and all friends of our sport around the globe,” stated Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “This full recognition comes as we prepare for the WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships taking place next month in London where, we are sure, Slovakia’s athletes will perform well.”

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate, in association with BULA (WCBU 2017) will be held at Plage de la Grande Conche in Royan, France from Sunday, 18 June to Saturday, 24 June 2017. The French Flying Disc Federation (FFDF) will oversee the Tournament Organizing Committee made up of an experienced team from the local regional league “Flying Disc Poitou Charentes,” members of the FFDF, and local France Sport sponsors and partners.

WFDF is pleased to announce that it has awarded a total of US,000 in development grants to be used to create and fortify Beach Ultimate leagues with six projects on four continents. WFDF had put out a call for applications in November 2015 for the 2016 Beach Ultimate development grant program with a focus on funding projects brought by member associations or individuals to start or grow local Beach Ultimate leagues.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has appointed Charlie Mead of the United Kingdom as new WFDF Disc Golf Committee chair and Board member. The appointment comes as a replacement for outgoing Disc Golf Committee chair Michael Downes who stepped down from the position after the Professional Disc Golf Association (“PDGA”) terminated its memorandum of understanding and membership with WFDF effective 29 February 2016.

World Team Disc Golf Championship co-hosted by WFDF and PDGA will still be hosted in August 2016
The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) announces that it is going to reorganize its Disc Golf Committee after the Professional Disc Golf Association (“PDGA”) gave notice it was officially terminating the Memorandum of Understanding previously signed on 27 January 2014 and not renewing its membership in WFDF, effective 29 January 2016. WFDF is in the process of reconstituting the WFDF Disc Golf Committee, which had been a joint committee designated by the PDGA, into one comprised of representatives of WFDF country members who oversee a multi-disciplinary association in order to properly manage disc golf activity within the context of WFDF’s Olympic Movement responsibilities.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that it has kicked off a crowdfunding campaign to secure funds for producing a world-class TV Broadcast production and comprehensive video streaming program of games during the 2016 WFDF World Ultimate and Guts Championships taking place in London, United Kingdom from 18 to 25 June 2016.
The campaign, which was launched today on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform, is running through 23 March 2016 and aims to secure funding for deliverables such as 20+ free worldwide streaming games of ultimate (also available on free VOD), 10+ mini-documentaries to be shared for free online, a Broadcast of a two-hour feature program on a US sports network and the production of an event documentary.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce a new partnership around Spirit of the Game (SotG) with Early Recognition Is Critical (E.R.I.C). E.R.I.C. is a nonprofit charitable organization that teaches youth about cancer symptom awareness and the importance of healthy living through its Ultimate Frisbee clinics. One of the biggest connections between cancer awareness and Ultimate is self-advocacy. E.R.I.C. teaches kids they need to speak up in a game if they get fouled, just as they need to speak up if they notice cancer-related symptoms.

WFDF’s Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee are seeking bids from potential host organizers for the WFDF 2018 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC). The WJUC is the premier world junior championship event for the flying disc discipline of Ultimate. The event is held bi-annually and is comprised of national teams competing in the Junior Uner-20 Men’s and the Junior Under-20 Women’s divisions. The event was most recently held in 2014 Lecco, Italy and will again be held this summer August, 2016 in Wroclaw Poland.
