WFDF 2012 Election Results Announced

The World Flying Disc Federation Nominating and Election Committee (NomComm) is pleased to announce the results of the 2012 elections. The following individuals have been elected for a two year term to serve beginning 1 January 2013 until 31 December 2014 (subject to confirmation of acceptance of position by all elected individuals):

Patrick van der Valk (POR), Beach Ultimate Committee chair (87 yes, 2 abstain)
Ryan Scott (USA), Guts Committee chair (73 yes, 16 abstain)

Fumio Morooka (JPN), At-Large member (88 yes, 1 abstain)

Thirty-one (31) WFDF members in good standing participated in the election, with a total of 89 votes. The election, which ran from November 27 to December 27, 2012, was tallied using the "Single Transferable Voting Mechanism."
NomComm Chair and WFDF Treasurer Sandie Hammerly stated:”On behalf of WFDF’s Nominating and Election Committee, I congratulate all elected candidates and thank you for your continued service to disc sports and our athletes and organizers. WFDF looks forward to continued progress with all office holders being re-elected and I appreciate the confidence shown by our WFDF member organizations that have chosen to re-elect these members of our Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee.
The 2012 WFDF Nominating & Election Committee was comprised of: Sandie Hammerly (USA) (Chair), Volker Bernardi (GER) (Administrator), John Hempel (AUS) (1st scrutineer), and Barry O`Kane (UK) (2nd Scrutineer).

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has appointed Rob McLeod, also known as “Frisbee Rob,” as WFDF Director of Communications and Global Media. This newly created volunteer position will assist the officers and executive staff in the daily media and networking services like issuing media releases, identifying content and managing WFDF’s Facebook and Twitter pages, and improving the existing presence on youtube and other video platforms.
“We are extremely pleased that we were able to find someone with the media and promotion experience that Rob has within the Flying Disc sports community,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “WFDF needs to take better advantage of the evolving opportunities in social media in order to better communicate with all of WFDF’s stakeholders and audience. Rob recently spent time with the WFDF officers and staff in London for the World U23 Ultimate Championships. We had previously discussed this role with Rob and, after the WFDF Congress last weekend and hearing all of the work that the national flying disc federations are doing to grow the sport, Rob decided to enthusiastically accept this role.”

WFDF is pleased to announce that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) today has granted full recognition to the World Flying Disc Federation at its 128th Session in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Established in 1985 and celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2015, the WFDF is composed of 62 national member associations on five continents. WFDF had received provisional recognition by the IOC in May 2013.
“The sport of Flying Disc has been granted full recognition by the International Olympic Committee today and WFDF is extremely honored and humbled by the decision and support shown by the IOC Session for our sport today. We are very thankful to the IOC membership, the Executive Board and its administration, in particular to the IOC Sport Department and staff, for their guidance and support during the period since WFDF was provisionally recognized by the IOC Executive Board in May 2013,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch.

The 2015 WFDF World Overall Championships are under way in Norrköping, Sweden, from 18-25 July 2015. The event features 7 disciplines as are Double Disc Court, Freestyle, Accuracy, Discathon, Self Caught Flight, Distance and Disc Golf. Athletes from 11 countries participate in the event.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) will be hosted in the city of Wrocław (Poland). The event will be held from July 31-August 6, 2016 at the facilities at the Pola Marsome fields in Wrocław. The finals will be staged in the Stadion Olimpijski (Stadium), a venue of the 2017 IWGA World Games, on August 6, 2016. The successful bid, which topped five other qualified bids, came from the Ultimate bro s.c. (UB) group headed by Michal Dul and is supported and endorsed by the Polish Ultimate Players Association.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that the inaugural WFDF 2015 Asia Oceanic Guts Club Championships (AOGCC) will be hosted in the city of New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei. The event will be held on October 17-18, 2015 at the facilities at the “Ban Chiao Multiple Stadium” located in New Taipei City, with the finals being held on the main field at this venue on Sunday, October 18, 2015. The successful bid came from the Chinese Taipei Flying Disc Association (CTFDA) acting as Tournament Organizing Committee under the leadership of Michael HU. It is expected that a minimum number of 10 teams will participate in the Open and Women’s divisions.

The World Flying Disc Federation announces that the Tokyo Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games has approved the short-list of eight International Federations for potential inclusion as an additional event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games without including a Flying Disc sport.
The announcement was made today by the Additional Event Program Panel of Tokyo 2020`s Organising Committee, concluding the second stage of the application procedure before entering the official phase II of the process. The IFs of the eight sports included to the short-list: Baseball/Softball (WBSC), Bowling (WB), Karate (WKF), Roller Sports (FIRS), Sport Climbing (IFSC), Squash (WSF), Surfing (ISA), Wushu (IWUF).

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the Congress has approved of a modification of the WFDF Bylaws establishing a full voting right for the Athlete`s Commission chair on its Board of Directors.
The WFDF Congress unanimously approved of the proposed change allocating full voting powers to the Athlete’s Commission chair within the Board.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the totally revamped website of the Freestyle Players Association (FPA) is now live at www.FreestyleDisc.org.
“We have completely revamped the website to modernize the feel and offer more of the features that we think everyone will use and love,” commented FPA at-large Board member Brian Boaté on the launch. “Our hope is that this site will be the online hub for our favorite sport and to provide current news, exciting content and valuable tools for both our existing community and to attract new players as well. We encourage everyone to explore the site and to please feel free to send any issues and feedback to email@example.com. We will be adding additional features and content in the coming weeks.”

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has signed a contract with Discraft Inc. as a WFDF Sponsor and Official Disc Supplier for the period 2015-2016. Discraft Inc., based in Michigan, USA, will also have the exclusive rights to produce “Official WFDF Ultimate Discs” during the term of this Agreement.
The Discraft UltraStarTM also will be used as official game discs during WFDF sanctioned events in 2015 and 2016.
