New Rules Accreditation Requirements for 2014 WFDF-Sanctioned Ultimate Events Announced

The WFDF Ultimate Committee and WFDF Ultimate Rules Sub-Committee are pleased to announce the new WFDF Rules Accreditation Requirements for WFDF-sanctioned Ultimate events in 2014, including both the World Juniors Ultimate Championships and the World Ultimate Club Championships. As a self-officiated sport, the objective of this accreditation is to ensure that all players are fully versed in the rules to ensure that there is no confusion on playing within the “spirit of the game.”
The Rules Accreditation process was introduced at the start of 2013 and is designed to allow players to demonstrate that they have read and understood the Rules of Ultimate. There are two types of Accreditation: (1) WFDF Accreditation - Standard: for all types of players (including those who have not played a game); and (2) WFDF Accreditation - Advanced: for experienced players only.
Players who successfully complete the quiz are issued a certificate. A register of people who are Rules Accredited is updated each month and is available on the Rules Website. Full details regarding the Rules Accreditation Process are available from each specific event website and from the Accreditation section of the official Rules of Ultimate website.
For 2014, the WFDF Ultimate Committee has established the following Rules Accreditation Requirements that must be met at WFDF-sanctioned Ultimate events.
• Standard Accreditation: All team members on the roster must have at least a Standard Accreditation.
• Advanced Accreditation: At least half of the players on the roster must have the Advanced Accreditation, one of whom must be the team captain.
The WFDF Ultimate Rules Sub-Committee is working on developing translated versions of the Accreditation questions, and new translations are updated on http://rules.wfdf.org/accreditation/translations . Translated versions are currently available in German, Japanese and Spanish (standard only). As of now, if a local language version is not available, players are expected to complete the Accreditation process in English.
WFDF Ultimate Committee Chair Brian Gisel commented “We believe that this is an important next step to ensure that players have the tools they need to learn and apply the rules and play with good Spirit. This enhanced requirement for 2014 puts in place the next step of the program outlined a year ago and we expect that players will find it useful.”
There is an important note regarding Rules Accredited players:
• They have the same responsibilities on the field as every other player
• They do not release a Captain from their responsibility to ensure their team upholds the Spirit of the Game
• They do not replace the requirement for each player to learn and apply the rules and play with good Spirit

WFDF is pleased to announce the hosts and event dates of two 2015 key events. The WFDF 2015 World Under 23 Ultimate Championships (WU23) will be held in the city of London, United Kingdom, while the WFDF 2015 PanAmerican Ultimate Championships (PAUC) will be staged in Mexico.
The WU23 will be held from 12 to 18 July 2015 and be hosted by UK Ultimate acting as the Tournament Organizing Committee (TOC). Responsible for the organization will be UKU CEO Simon Hill, who formerly served as WFDF’s Ultimate Committee chair. The event will be staged at the University College London (UCL) Sports Ground, in St Albans just north of London. The last WU23 was held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, which hosted 36 teams from 17 nations in 3 divisions: Open, Women’s, and Mixed. Over 900 athletes, coaches, and managers had visited Toronto for the Championships. These three divisions will be competing in London in 2015 again.

WFDF’s Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee are seeking bids from potential host organizers for the WFDF 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC).
The WJUC is the premier world junior championship event for the flying disc discipline of Ultimate. The event is held bi-annually and is comprised of national teams competing in the Junior U19 Open and the Junior U19 Women’s divisions. The event was most recently held in 2014 Lecco, Italy.

WFDF is seeking enthusiastic, skilled and committed candidates for its 2014 Elections. Complete nominations must be received by the Nominating Committee by November 7, 2014. The target date for the start of the elections is November 15, 2014, with a targeted end date of December 15, 2014. Results should be announced by December 31, 2014 subject to confirmation of acceptance by elected candidates.

WFDF is pleased to announce that the Congress has approved United Arabian Ultimate (UAU) and the Féderation Congolaise de Disque Volant (FCDV) as regular national members of the World Flying Disc Federation. The acceptance of these two groups brings the WFDF membership to 62 member associations in 58 countries, adding key countries in the Middle East and Africa to the WFDF membership portfolio.

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has opened a tender for establishing a multi‐year WFDF Sponsor & Official Apparel / Merchandise supplier partnership for the two year period from 1 January 2015 through the end of 2016.
Expressions of interest are requested no later than Friday, 17 October, 2014. Detailed and final proposal shall be submitted by Friday, 31 October 2014.

Over 200 Disc Golf players from 24 countries across Europe for the 2014 European Disc Golf Championships (EDGC) held in Geneva from 20 - 23 August 2014. Players from Finland dominated the competition, winning gold in four of the six divisions of play (Open, Women, Masters and Senior Grandmasters). The Juniors title went to Germany while the Grandmasters title was won by a Spaniard. The event was jointly sanctioned by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA).

The deadline to register teams for the BULA & WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) is Sunday, August 31. This major Beach Ultimate event will be held 08-13 March 2015 on the JBR beach in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
So far, 71 teams from 22 countries have confirmed their participation through their national federations - including Great Britain, USA, Australia, the Philippines, South Africa, and India.

The WFDF Anti-Doping Program at the 2014 World Championships in Lecco, Italy, involving all age categories from Under-19 to Master’s, turned out to be a “tremendous success,” per WFDF President Robert L. “Nob” Rauch as he commented on the program held in conjunction with the WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) and the WFDF World Ultimate Club Championships.

In what was finally again a sunny day in Lecco the World Club Champions 2014 in the Open, Women`s and Mixed divisions were celebrated in Lecco`s city stadium Rigamonti-Ceppi. Revolver beat Seatlle Sockeye 17-15 in the Open Final taking the gold. Bronze went to Johnny Bravo beating Colony in the Bronze medal game with a 17-13 score. The Women`s division saw Riot beat Fury with 17-15 winning the World Club Championship title, leaving the Bronze to Team Scandal after a win over Showdown. In the Mixed division Drag`n Thrust beat Polar Bears 17-10. Bronze medal winners were The Ghosts with a 17-13 win over Team Fisher Price.
