WFDF is pleased to announce that the Japan Flying Disc Association (JFDA) was approved by the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) on 9 June 2014 as a JOC-recognized organization.

“We are extremely pleased about this news from Asia about the formal recognition of our largest member association on the continent by the Japanese Olympic Committee,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch.

“This is a huge boost for the development of Flying Disc sports in Asia and in particular in Japan. We are grateful for all the work done by JFDA under the leadership of President Prof. Fumio Morooka and his staff for our sport in the past and are looking forward to new levels of cooperation with JFDA as a JOC-recognized organization. We anticipate that we will be able to make further such announcements in the near future and are confident that this increasing integration of our national members in the Olympic Movement through their NOCs will strengthen our case for full recognition by the International Olympic Committee in 2015.”

Fumio Morooka, who is the current JFDA President and who has been a WFDF Board member since 1992, stated “JFDA is proud to be a recognized by the Japanese Olympic Committee. We have worked hard in Japan to demonstrate that Flying Disc sports and JFDA are worthy of being a part of the Olympic family.  With Tokyo being the host city of the 2020 Olympic Summer Games, we will dedicate our resources towards supporting the success of those efforts and will also continue to look for opportunities to introduce disc sports to the entire global sports community.”
