Congratulations to the Flying Disc Beach Ultimate Mixed Team from Germany, IWGA Team of the Month for March 2015. The team from Germany spoiled the USA clean sweep at the  WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) in Dubai. Whilst team USA dominated the field at these World Championships, taking gold in six of the seven divisions of play, Germany secured one title with its win in the mixed gender division and took its first gold medal ever in WFDF-sanctioned World Championship Ultimate play.

The medal results in this division: Germany took gold, followed by Canada and the USA, with India winning the Spirit award. “The German Mixed team is a perfect example of a well-balanced squad”, said Patrick van der Valk, WFDF Beach Ultimate Chair and Beach Ulitmate President. “They have had lots of experience and are all solid performers. Their great composure and dedication to the game resulted in their winning the gold medal and finishing second on the Spirit of the Game (FairPlay) ranking. Something to be extremely proud of.”

WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch added: “Team Germany was very impressive throughout the entire championship, and demonstrated the depth of the German flying disc program by taking the gold medal in the mixed gender division. This was Germany’s first gold medal in a WFDF World Championship and we expect to see more successes from them.”

The WCBU, co-sanctioned by the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) and the Beach Ultimate Lovers Association (BULA), was held at the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) Resort in Dubai (United Arab Emirates) from 8-13 March 2015. More than 1,100 players in 71 teams from 24 countries participated in this showcase event of Beach Ultimate. The World Championship featured 380 games in seven divisions of play over the course of the week.
