The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to present its 2014 Report of its Development Grants Program and put out the call for new grants applications for 2015.  In 2014 a total of US$ 26,739 was committed and the WFDF board has budgeted up to US$24,000 for 2015, with individual grants limited to no more than US$1,500 each. WFDF also plans to expand this year its disc missionary program, providing discs to travelers to areas with limited disc activity.

“In an effort to meet our strategic goals as set out in the latest strategic plan 2015-2018 and in order to show our commitment to further develop our sport globally, we have renewed and greatly expanded this Program for 2015. The program will be again used to fund worthy ideas brought to the Board by Member Associations or individuals fostering grass-root development of Flying Disc activities,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch.  “Our aims are to introduce disc sports into new countries, expand activity in developing countries, promote gender inclusion projects, and support programs for spirit of the game education and youth programs as well as projects for flying disc for the disabled. We also will focus on establishing structures where we are not fully organized so far, in particular in African countries.”

In 2014, projects were supported in Argentina, Hungary, India, Morocco, Poland, our newly formed Continental Associations were supported, and discs were sent to Nicaragua, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.

The program is not limited to projects sponsored by WFDF member countries but explicitly calls for initiatives or projects by individuals or groups in new countries. Applications may be made by member associations or individuals by using the official application form and grants may be used to fund activities for 12-15 months from the date of the award. The deadline for submission of grant applications to [email protected] will be 31 May 2015 with the first disbursements expected in July.  Disc missionary applications may be made at any time.

“It is of great importance that the proposed projects show a path toward sustainability leading to permanent activities in the affected area,” added Brian Gisel, chair of the WFDF Sport for All / Development Commission, which is the body involved in the awarding process. “WFDF will also seek the advice of its Continental Associations and other relevant WFDF bodies when awarding the grants.”
