2017 Asia Oceanic WUGC in Manila, Phillipines

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2017 Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Club Championships (AOUGCC) will be staged in the city of Manila at the Ayala Alabang Country Club in the Philippines from Thursday 17th to Sunday 20th of August 2017.

The successful bid came from the Philippine Flying Disc Association (PFDA) with a team headed up by Vice-President Karen Cabrera. The Tournament Organizing Committee (TOC) expects over 60 club teams from neighboring Asia and Oceania countries including Japan, People’s Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, South Korea, Singapore, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, India, and Australia to compete in the event. Ultimate divisions played will be the Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, Masters and Junior divisions, with this tournament also expecting to host 8 Guts teams.

“WFDF is pleased to award the Philippines this premiere continental championship event, with this quadrennial club team event that alternates with the AOUC for national teams continuing to grow strongly.  The addition of the Juniors Under-20 divisions will assist our regional junior teams gain invaluable major event experience in preparation for their participation at the WFDF World Junior Ultimate Championships in Canada to be held in 2018,” stated WFDF President Robert, “Nob” Rauch.

Ultimate and Guts were hosted separately in 2015 with the Asia Oceanic Guts Club Championships being held in New Taipei City, Chinese Taipei with 14 teams participating in the two-day event in October 2015. The Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships was held in Hong Kong, China in the following month, where the event attracted 21 national teams from 11 countries. “Combining both Guts and Ultimate disciplines in one event will create logistical efficiencies for our continental member federations,” concluded Rauch.

Philippine Flying Disc Association President Ping Bautista commented that “We are excited and thrilled to host the Asia Oceanic Ultimate and Guts Club Championships here in the Philippines. We promise to make it a worthwhile event for all participants and spectators. We look forward to seeing club teams from all over the Asia Oceanic region compete over four days of non-stop action on the fields of Alabang Country Club. See you all on the fields.”
