The World Flying Disc Federation’s 2018 World Junior Ultimate Championships kicked off on Saturday, August 18 in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada. The event is hosting more than 800 young athletes from 31 teams and 18 countries in the Junior Under-20 Men’s and Women’s divisions.

Running from August 18-25 at RIM Park at the Manulife Financial Sportsplex, WJUC commenced with an opening ceremony followed by a showcase game between Canada and Germany in the Women’s division, which the Canadians won by the score of 15-7.

“It is exciting to see this gathering of youthful Ultimate talent from all over the globe,” stated Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President.  “It’s great to see the next generation coming up and the level of competition continuing to rise, especially because we are celebrating the 50th anniversary of the development of the sport of Ultimate this year.”

WJUC is held bi-annually and serves as the world Ultimate championships among national teams. The WFDF 2016 WJUC was held in Wroclaw, Poland, where the event attracted 49 teams and 1,000 athletes from 29 countries and served as a test event for The World Games competition. WJUC is open to all junior players who have yet to have turned twenty (20) years of age during the calendar year 2018. The juniors world championship was first held in 1983 in Gothenburg, Sweden.
