World Flying Disc Federation introduces its new logo

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF), the international sports federation responsible for the governance of flying disc sports, is pleased to introduce its new logo and corporate identity. The decision to update the logo was made during the WFDF board’s strategic planning session in Toronto in November 2014 with the goal of modernizing the look of the organization and expressing its growth and development objectives. The new logo was designed with the support of WFDF’s new sponsor and merchandise and apparel partner, VC Ultimate, and was chosen by the board from several alternatives.

WFDF announces London as host of 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC)

WFDF is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC) will be held in London, United Kingdom. WUGC will be held from 18 to 25 June 2016 at the University College London (UCL) Sports Ground in St Albans. WFDF expects more than 2,000 athletes from some 35 countries to participate in the WUGC 2016 in five divisions of Ultimate (Open, Women’s, Mixed, Open Masters and Women’s Masters divisions) and one of Guts Frisbee.

WFDF announces updated Appendices to the Rules of Ultimate

WFDF is pleased to announce that the updated Appendix to the Rules of Ultimate has been released.
“The Appendix has been revised to incorporate the recommendations that were made regarding Game Advisors as part of the Final Report of the WFDF Spirit of the Game (SOTG) Task Force. Further, a number of other smaller changes and additions are included,” commented WFDF Ultimate Rules Sub-Committee Chair Florian Pfender. “In addition to this, a separate appendix for Beach Ultimate was created to describe all required adaptations for play on sand.”

WFDF releases first ever World Ultimate Country Ranking list

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) has released the first ever World Ultimate Country Ranking list for WFDF member nations who have participated in major events over the past four years. The top ten countries per the new ranking system are: United States of America, Canada, Germany, Great Britain, Australia, Japan, France, Colombia, Austria, and Italy. The rankings will be updated on a rolling four year basis based on performance in WFDF’s five major Ultimate World Championships.

WFDF Announces VC Ultimate as Sponsor and Official Apparel / Merchandise Supplier

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that it has selected VC Ultimate as Sponsor and Official Apparel / Merchandise Supplier for the period 2015-2016. VC Ultimate, based in Toronto, Canada, will have the exclusive rights to develop and sell any and all official event merchandise and apparel for the WFDF’s world and continental championships over this period beginning with the WFDF World Under-23 Ultimate Championship this summer in London. In return, this partnership will provide benefits to the players and teams, event organizers, and to WFDF. VC Ultimate will also work with WFDF to develop and market WFDF-branded gear to be sold through their Canadian, American and European online stores.

PDGA releases its 2015 International Program Guide

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has released its 2015 International Program Guide, which provides in-depth information on disc golf activities and protocol in all countries outside of the USA and Canada. In 2014, the 10th year of the PDGA’s International Program, there were 3,100+ International Members, 360+ sanctioned events, and 28 PDGA affiliated countries in Europe, Asia, and Oceania.

WFDF Presents Strategic Plan for 2015-2018

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today has released its strategic plan for the period 2015-2018. This four-year strategic plan was developed by the members of the WFDF Board of Directors during its recent face-to-face meeting in Toronto after reviewing input from Member associations and 3,400 individual members of the disc community through a global questionnaire. This document spells out WFDF’s vision and values, its core strategies, and the tactics for achieving them.

WFDF 2014 Elections Results Announced

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today has announced the results of its 2014 elections. The WFDF Member Associations voted on open positions on the Board of Directors and on the Ultimate Committee to serve from 1 January 2015 to 31 December 2016.
WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch commented: “We are particularly pleased about the interest and high participation of our member associations in this year`s election. The WFDF Board composition was confirmed as an extremely qualified and experienced slate of candidates for the upcoming period of two years.”

Spirit of the Game Directors for 2015 BULA & WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate appointed

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) today announced the appointment of the Spirit of the Game Directors for the 2015 BULA & WFDF World Championships of Beach Ultimate (www.wcbu2015.org): Richard Moore from Australia will be the Spirit Director and Kate Barabanova from Russia will be the Assistant Spirit Director.
The highly anticipated event will be held 8-13 March 2015 in Dubai and will host over 1,000 athletes from 25 countries who will compete in the fully self-refereed team sport of Beach Ultimate. As for all flying disc sports, Spirit of the Game (SOTG) is the most important rule. It involves elements such as fair play, rules knowledge and the respect that players hold for one-another.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors, upon the recommendation of its Beach Ultimate Committee, has approved of a new set of Rules of Beach Ultimate and the corresponding Rules Appendix 2017. The new rules came into effect on April 1, 2017 and will be used at the WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) being held in Royan, France, in association with BULA, from 18-24 June. There are some differences in this set of rules that will affect the game of Beach Ultimate, specifically the length of timeouts, determination of gender mix in the Mixed Division of play, the field size, and the use of yellow discs as the official game disc for TV broadcast games.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that it is revising the eligibility age for female players participating in the Mixed Masters division, lowering it from 33 years to 30 years. The change was made to conform to the eligibility age that has been in place for the Women’s Masters division.
“After lengthy discussion and a unanimous vote in favor, the WFDF Ultimate Committee had recommended that change, bringing the eligibility age for females participating in the Women’s Masters and Mixed Masters divisions to the same level, avoiding unnecessary confusion and inconsistency,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has approved a new form of sanctioned competition, the international test match. An International Test Match is a bilateral game of Ultimate between teams representing two regular WFDF member associations. The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Congress has accepted Armenia as new WFDF member association. With the acceptance of the Armenian National Frisbee Federation (ANFF), WFDF now has 72 member associations in 70 countries.
“We are pleased to welcome Armenia into the WFDF family,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “Their admission as national member number 70 marks a milestone in the program we started four years ago to work with loosely organized flying disc players in countries around the world and support their efforts to institutionalize their governance and pursue membership in WFDF. We are looking forward to approving five more new members in the first half of 2017, four of them within one month’s time, as each of these have been working with us closely for more than a year on the approval process and have recently submitted full and complete applications for membership.”

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has confirmed that it will sanction the WFDF 2017 World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC) at the XA tier level. In addition, team registration for the WTDGC has been extended to June 9th in the light of considerable interest from many countries that have asked for an extension to the registration process. WTDGC will be held August 23-26 in Colchester, England and it will be hosted by DiscZoo. Teams must be submitted by national disc sports federations who are World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) members, or by the national disc golf association for countries where disc golf is not part of a national disc sports body or a direct member of WFDF.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has appointed new members to its WFDF Sport for All and Development Commission as well as its Entourage Commission. The appointments came after a decision by the board to expand the scope of WFDF’s development projects using the grants offered by WFDF to members and Flying Disc groups, and to bolster the resources of the entourage work being done by WFDF.
The appointments include the addition of recently appointed WFDF Sustainability officer Johanna von Toggenburg (GER) and Thierry Fulconis (LUX) to the Sport for All and Development Commission, with Thierry representing the interests of our smaller countries and member associations. Separately, Peter Kramer (HUN) will be added to the WFDF Entourage Commission.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to present its call for development grants applications for 2017. In 2017 a total of US$ 24,000 has been budgeted for development projects including the WFDF coaching clinics and other projects. The individual disc community grants program constitutes approximately 25% of the development budget, with individual grants limited to no more than US,500 each. WFDF also plans to expand this year its disc missionary program, providing discs to travelers to areas with limited disc activity. The deadline for the submission of grant applications 23 April 2017 with the first disbursements expected in June 2017.

Today the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) released its updated list for 2016 of average Spirit of the Game scores by country. Intended to accompany the recently updated WFDF World Ultimate Rankings, this list takes into account scores received by all teams attending recent WFDF World Championships and Continental Championships for Ultimate over the past three years, including the Spirit scores from the 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships in London and World Junior Ultimate Championships in Wroclaw.
