WFDF announces 2012 World Ultimate and Guts Championships to take place in Japan

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced today that it has awarded the 2012 World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC) to the Japan Flying Disc Association (JFDA). This quadrennial event will be hosted in the city of Sakai, Japan, 7 – 14 July 2012. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate and Guts Committees, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the JFDA during their latest meeting, thus returning the World Championships to Japan for the first time since 1992.
Harvey Brandt and Lori Daniels take Gold at 2011 WFDF World Overall Championships in Fort Collins

Harvey Brandt won the Open Division title with a total of 342.5 points and Lori Daniels took gold for the Women with 70 points in the 2011 WFDF World Overall Flying Disc Championships which were held in Fort Collins, Colorado, 18 - 23 July 2011. This was the 10th World Overall Championships sanctioned by WFDF (the first was held in 1987) and featured seven individual disc disciplines: accuracy, discathon, freestyle, disc golf, self-caught flight, double disc court, and distance.
WFDF Pan-American Ultimate Championships (PAUC) to be held in Medellín, Colombia, on 24 – 27 November

WFDF is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2011 Pan-American Ultimate Championships (PAUC) will be held in Medellín, Colombia, from 24 – 27 November 2011. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate Committee, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the Asociacion de Jugadores de Ultimate en Colombia (AJUC, Ultimate Players Association in Colombia) during their last meeting, thus accepting the Colombian bid for the first event of this kind in the Americas. PAUC will be a club level championship, with up to two teams per country per division (open and womens) permitted.
“We are excited to announce the first ever Pan-American Ultimate Championship. It is a goal for WFDF to strengthen the Continental Ultimate Championship series to complement our World Championships”, stated WFDF President Robert L. “Nob” Rauch. “Of note, local organizer Mauricio Moore and his team view the event as a test run for the 2013 World Games and expect it to generate excitement for Ultimate in advance of those games. Further, the event will be run in conjunction with a social development project sponsored by the Institute of Sports and Recreation of Medellín INDER”.
WFDF Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships (AOUC) to be held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, 1 to 4 December 2011
05 June 2011WFDF is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2011 Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships will be held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, from 1 to 4 December 2011. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate Committee, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the Chinese Taipei Flying Disc Association (CTFDA) during their latest meeting, thus returning Ultimate to the venue of the 2009 World Games competitions.
The National Stadium as main venue of the World Games in Kaohsiung 2009, where Ultimate was the most successful competition attracting some 50.000 spectators, will be the showcase venue for the Championship finals on 4 December 2011, commented Robert (Nob) Rauch, WFDF President.
WFDF Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Peace and Sport

World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the organization known as Peace and Sport (“P&S”). The purpose of the MoU is to establish the basis for cooperation between the two organizations to pursue programs targeted at youth in troubled areas where sports may be used as a reconciliation tool to further the goal of peace. P&S currently has projects in Israel/Palestine, Colombia, Burundi, India/Pakistan, Ivory Coast, Timor, and Haiti. WFDF pursues its development goals through support of Ultimate Peace, a non-profit organization founded and run by David Barkan and Linda Sikorsky of the USA, for which WFDF currently serves as fiscal sponsor, and it is expected to leverage its relations with the two organizations to pursue activities in the near term in Colombia and Israel.
Poland accepted as a full WFDF National member

The Polish Ultimate Players Association has been accepted as a WFDF full National Member by an electronic vote of the WFDF Congress, approving their membership unanimously by the votes cast. Please join us in welcoming this Federation as a full National Member. WFDF now counts a total membership of 56 members (36 full Members and 20 provisional members) in 54 countries. The positive support by the WFDF Congress on the Polish membership proposal and the current votes on Hungary and Slovenia are further steps in the process of upgrading the WFDF membership on a global level, stated Robert Nob Rauch, WFDF President. WFDF will move forward in encouraging our current provisional members to develop and consequently apply for full membership. Currently the Congress is voting electronically on the full membership for the national federations of Hungary and Slovenia.

WFDF is seeking for bidders for the World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) 2012 based on the new version of the Bid Guidelines 2011. Further information to follow. Deadline for submitting bid documents will be 28 March 2011.

WFDF has revised the bid document and based on the new version is looking for formal applications to host the following events: Asia Oceania Pacific Regional Event (2011), Pan American Regional Event (2011), WUGC 2012 and WJUC 2012. WFDF appoints Volker Bernardi of Germany as Executive Director

The World Flying Disc Federation has announced the appointment of Volker Bernardi from Germany as its new Executive Director. Mr. Bernardi, who will serve as the first full-time Executive Director of WFDF, has assumed his duties effective immediately. Kevin “Skippy” Givens, former part-time Executive Director, will stay on as Administrative Consultant through March 31, 2011 to assist in the transition. Mr. Bernardi will establish a home office near Frankfurt, Germany to serve a WFDF’s administrative headquarters.
“We are extremely pleased to bring on someone with Volker’s Olympic Movement experience to WFDF,” stated Robert “Nob” Rauch, WFDF President. “Although he is not a disc player, with his professional sports background we are confident Volker can assist us in effectively addressing the challenges and opportunities we are facing at WFDF, including developing our anti-doping programs, improving our global development efforts, upgrading our internal communications and governance standards, and further supporting our events and current and prospective members. And we want to especially thank Skippy Givens for all of his contributions over the last three years. Skippy has done a great job carrying out his responsibilities in a part-time position and WFDF is much better for all his efforts.”
