WFDF 2011 Election Results Announced

The World Flying Disc Federation Nominating and Election Committee is pleased to announce the results of its 2011 elections. In uncontested elections as officers and board members, Thomas Griesbaum (GER) was elected as Secretary, Sandie Hammerly (USA) as Treasurer, and Simon Hill as Ultimate Committee Chair. Kate Bergeron (USA), Brian Gisel (CAN), and Michael Hu (TPE) were elected as at-large board members out of a field of five candidates. Also, all Ultimate Committee candidates were approved. All 37 WFDF members in good standing cast their votes in the election, which was tallied using the "Single Transferable Voting Mechanism."

WFDF 2012 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) host announced

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced today that it has awarded the 2012 World Junior Ultimate Championships (WJUC) to the Tournament Organising Committee (TOC) headed by Dominick Smyth and authorised by the Irish Flying Disc Association (IFDA).
This bi-annual event will be hosted in the city of Dublin, Ireland, 12 – 18 August 2012. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate Committee, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the IFDA during their latest meeting. The last WFDF WJUC event had been held in Heilbronn, Germany, in 2010.
Competitions will be held in two divisions: junior open and junior women’s at the Dublin City University (DCU). During the event the European U17 Championships is expected to be held at the same venue.

Call for Host Bids for WFDF Ultimate Club Championships 2014 (WUCC)

WFDF’s Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee are seeking bids from potential host organizers for the WFDF Ultimate Club Championships 2014 (WUCC). The deadline for submitting completed bids for WUCC 2014 is January 31, 2012, and it is anticipated that bids will be awarded no later than April 30, 2012. All potential bidders should notify WFDF of their intention to bid (no actual details required) by Friday December 16, 2011.

World Flying Disc Federation Call for Candidates: 2011 Elections

WFDF is seeking enthusiastic, skilled, and committed candidates for its 2011 Board of Directors and Ultimate Committee Elections.
Complete nominations must be received by the Nominating Committee by 9 November 2011, and the elections will run from 15 November 2011 to 15 December 2011, with results announced by 31 December 2011 subject to confirmation of acceptance by elected candidates.
The following positions are open for election to two-year terms to the Board of Directors commencing on 1 January 2012 and concluding 31 December 2013:

WFDF announces 2012 World Ultimate and Guts Championships to take place in Japan

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) announced today that it has awarded the 2012 World Ultimate and Guts Championships (WUGC) to the Japan Flying Disc Association (JFDA). This quadrennial event will be hosted in the city of Sakai, Japan, 7 – 14 July 2012. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate and Guts Committees, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the JFDA during their latest meeting, thus returning the World Championships to Japan for the first time since 1992.

Harvey Brandt and Lori Daniels take Gold at 2011 WFDF World Overall Championships in Fort Collins

Harvey Brandt won the Open Division title with a total of 342.5 points and Lori Daniels took gold for the Women with 70 points in the 2011 WFDF World Overall Flying Disc Championships which were held in Fort Collins, Colorado, 18 - 23 July 2011. This was the 10th World Overall Championships sanctioned by WFDF (the first was held in 1987) and featured seven individual disc disciplines: accuracy, discathon, freestyle, disc golf, self-caught flight, double disc court, and distance.
WFDF Pan-American Ultimate Championships (PAUC) to be held in Medellín, Colombia, on 24 – 27 November

WFDF is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2011 Pan-American Ultimate Championships (PAUC) will be held in Medellín, Colombia, from 24 – 27 November 2011. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate Committee, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the Asociacion de Jugadores de Ultimate en Colombia (AJUC, Ultimate Players Association in Colombia) during their last meeting, thus accepting the Colombian bid for the first event of this kind in the Americas. PAUC will be a club level championship, with up to two teams per country per division (open and womens) permitted.
“We are excited to announce the first ever Pan-American Ultimate Championship. It is a goal for WFDF to strengthen the Continental Ultimate Championship series to complement our World Championships”, stated WFDF President Robert L. “Nob” Rauch. “Of note, local organizer Mauricio Moore and his team view the event as a test run for the 2013 World Games and expect it to generate excitement for Ultimate in advance of those games. Further, the event will be run in conjunction with a social development project sponsored by the Institute of Sports and Recreation of Medellín INDER”.

WFDF Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships (AOUC) to be held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, 1 to 4 December 2011

WFDF is pleased to announce that the WFDF 2011 Asia Oceanic Ultimate Championships will be held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei, from 1 to 4 December 2011. Upon the recommendation of the Ultimate Committee, the WFDF Board of Directors approved the bid from the Chinese Taipei Flying Disc Association (CTFDA) during their latest meeting, thus returning Ultimate to the venue of the 2009 World Games competitions.
The National Stadium as main venue of the World Games in Kaohsiung 2009, where Ultimate was the most successful competition attracting some 50.000 spectators, will be the showcase venue for the Championship finals on 4 December 2011, commented Robert (Nob) Rauch, WFDF President.

WFDF Signs Memorandum of Understanding with Peace and Sport

World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that it has signed a memorandum of understanding with the organization known as Peace and Sport (“P&S”). The purpose of the MoU is to establish the basis for cooperation between the two organizations to pursue programs targeted at youth in troubled areas where sports may be used as a reconciliation tool to further the goal of peace. P&S currently has projects in Israel/Palestine, Colombia, Burundi, India/Pakistan, Ivory Coast, Timor, and Haiti. WFDF pursues its development goals through support of Ultimate Peace, a non-profit organization founded and run by David Barkan and Linda Sikorsky of the USA, for which WFDF currently serves as fiscal sponsor, and it is expected to leverage its relations with the two organizations to pursue activities in the near term in Colombia and Israel.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors, upon the recommendation of its Beach Ultimate Committee, has approved of a new set of Rules of Beach Ultimate and the corresponding Rules Appendix 2017. The new rules came into effect on April 1, 2017 and will be used at the WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate (WCBU) being held in Royan, France, in association with BULA, from 18-24 June. There are some differences in this set of rules that will affect the game of Beach Ultimate, specifically the length of timeouts, determination of gender mix in the Mixed Division of play, the field size, and the use of yellow discs as the official game disc for TV broadcast games.

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that it is revising the eligibility age for female players participating in the Mixed Masters division, lowering it from 33 years to 30 years. The change was made to conform to the eligibility age that has been in place for the Women’s Masters division.
“After lengthy discussion and a unanimous vote in favor, the WFDF Ultimate Committee had recommended that change, bringing the eligibility age for females participating in the Women’s Masters and Mixed Masters divisions to the same level, avoiding unnecessary confusion and inconsistency,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has approved a new form of sanctioned competition, the international test match. An International Test Match is a bilateral game of Ultimate between teams representing two regular WFDF member associations. The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that its Congress has accepted Armenia as new WFDF member association. With the acceptance of the Armenian National Frisbee Federation (ANFF), WFDF now has 72 member associations in 70 countries.
“We are pleased to welcome Armenia into the WFDF family,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “Their admission as national member number 70 marks a milestone in the program we started four years ago to work with loosely organized flying disc players in countries around the world and support their efforts to institutionalize their governance and pursue membership in WFDF. We are looking forward to approving five more new members in the first half of 2017, four of them within one month’s time, as each of these have been working with us closely for more than a year on the approval process and have recently submitted full and complete applications for membership.”

The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is pleased to announce that the Professional Disc Golf Association (PDGA) has confirmed that it will sanction the WFDF 2017 World Team Disc Golf Championships (WTDGC) at the XA tier level. In addition, team registration for the WTDGC has been extended to June 9th in the light of considerable interest from many countries that have asked for an extension to the registration process. WTDGC will be held August 23-26 in Colchester, England and it will be hosted by DiscZoo. Teams must be submitted by national disc sports federations who are World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) members, or by the national disc golf association for countries where disc golf is not part of a national disc sports body or a direct member of WFDF.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to announce that its Board of Directors has appointed new members to its WFDF Sport for All and Development Commission as well as its Entourage Commission. The appointments came after a decision by the board to expand the scope of WFDF’s development projects using the grants offered by WFDF to members and Flying Disc groups, and to bolster the resources of the entourage work being done by WFDF.
The appointments include the addition of recently appointed WFDF Sustainability officer Johanna von Toggenburg (GER) and Thierry Fulconis (LUX) to the Sport for All and Development Commission, with Thierry representing the interests of our smaller countries and member associations. Separately, Peter Kramer (HUN) will be added to the WFDF Entourage Commission.

The World Flying Disc Federation is pleased to present its call for development grants applications for 2017. In 2017 a total of US$ 24,000 has been budgeted for development projects including the WFDF coaching clinics and other projects. The individual disc community grants program constitutes approximately 25% of the development budget, with individual grants limited to no more than US,500 each. WFDF also plans to expand this year its disc missionary program, providing discs to travelers to areas with limited disc activity. The deadline for the submission of grant applications 23 April 2017 with the first disbursements expected in June 2017.

Today the World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) released its updated list for 2016 of average Spirit of the Game scores by country. Intended to accompany the recently updated WFDF World Ultimate Rankings, this list takes into account scores received by all teams attending recent WFDF World Championships and Continental Championships for Ultimate over the past three years, including the Spirit scores from the 2016 World Ultimate and Guts Championships in London and World Junior Ultimate Championships in Wroclaw.
