General information text on the GDPR

The legal framework for data protection changes this 25 May 2018. In the text below we provide further explanation on the contents of the new data protection laws as established by the European Union (EU) and explain your privacy rights around WFDF’s use of your private and personal data.

What is the GDPR and how does it affect you?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a European Union law relating to the use of personal data and comes into force on 25 May 2018. GDPR imposes the duty on WFDF to establish protective measures when collecting private and personal data from you, safely protect the storage and use of all your personal data acquired through anyinteraction and engagement with us.

Does GDPR affect you if you live outside of the EU?

As WFDF´s website is hosted within the EU and WFDF does collect data of EU citizens for event management and administrative purposes, yes, the GDPR affects you even when you live outside of the EU. In general terms you have rights under EU law in relation to our use of your personal information where ever you live.  GDPR provides a very high standard of protection for your personal information and the World Flying Disc Federation is fully committed to ensuring that these standards apply to all personal information we collect.

What do you need to do regarding GDPR?

Generally, we do inform you on the use of your private and personal data and your respective rights according to the GDPR. We ask everyone who has subscribed to receive communications or Newsletters from WFDF in any form toread our data protection declaration and privacy policy and inform us if you do not want to receive communications any more. WFDF will make sure that only those who have not objected will receive online communications after 25 May 2018 or promptly after you give us such notice.

What personal data do we collect?

In general, you can visit WFDF´s website without providing personal information, but we may still collect aggregated and anonymised statistical data. From time to time WFDF might request personal information in order to allow you to use special features of the website.

How do we use your information?

We collect and use your information in order to give you a better service and to provide you with information you requestexplicitly.

Will your information be transferred abroad?

Only if you have granted WFDF explicit permission will your data be passed onto other parties (such as the WFDF official partners). Some of the entities to whom we may provide your information, may also be outside the European Union. In all cases WFDF will have established data transfer agreements with these entities prior to any data being transferred to ensure your data continues to be protected to the same standards as the European legislation.

How long do we keep your information?

Any personal information collected is retained only for as long as it is required, given the reason why we hold it or earlier if you ask WFDF to delete your personal information.

What if you want to change the information you are receiving?

You can change your data status at any time you choose by sending a respective request to WFDF.

What if you have objected by 25 May 2018 and then change your mind?

You can sign-up to any of WFDF´s communications at any time after the 25 May 2018 by sending a respective request to WFDF.

If you don’t wish to receive communications from WFDFcan you opt-out at any time?

You can unsubscribe from any communication sent by WFDF or on behalf of WFDF at any time by sending a respective request to WFDF.

Complaints

If you are not happy with the way that WFDF have used your information or look after your data privacy, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority.

This can be done in particular in the EU Member State of yourhabitual residence, place of work or place of the alleged infringement if you consider that the processing of personal data relating to you infringes the GDPR.
