06 July 2018
The World Flying Disc Federation (“WFDF”) is proud to name four new broadcast and streaming partners for the upcoming WFDF 2018 World Ultimate Club Championships (WUCC), which kicks off in Cincinnati, Ohio on Saturday, July 14.
Stadium (https://watchstadium.com/), a 24-hour multi-platform sports network, will broadcast the WUCC Finals on Saturday, July 21 in the United States on linear television and livestream them worldwide. The Olympic Channel (https://www.olympicchannel.com/), World Games Channel (https://www.theworldgames.org/channel), and Fanseat (https://www.fanseat.com/) will livestream a selection of games from WUCC to their global audiences all week long.
“We are excited to add four new prestigious partners to our already impressive roster of broadcast, streaming and media partners for WUCC,” said WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “In this age where fans want real time access to their favorite sports from wherever they may be viewing, we are thrilled to have so many avenues for viewers worldwide to watch the games. It seems a fitting way to showcase the sport in this, its 50th anniversary year.”
Olympic Channel, the over-the-top global media destination where fans can discover, engage and share in the power of sport and the excitement of the Olympic Games all year round, will livestream allof the games from the main field at olympicchannel.comand its mobile apps for Android and iOS for free.
“Following the success of flying disc at last summer’s World Games 2017, we look forward to bringing additional exposure to their sport and athletes to our worldwide platform and youthful audience,” said Mark Parkman, general manager of the IOC’s global Olympic Channel.
The World Games Channel will also stream up to 64 games throughout the tournament on its channel available at https://www.theworldgames.org/channel. The World GamesChannel hosts livestreams of current events, highlight shows of events sorted by date, and sport and highlight videos from The World Games.
Fanseat is the official media partner for the 2018 outdoor and beach season in Europe and provided livestreams from WFDF 2017 World Championships of Beach Ultimate in Royan, France. Fanseat will be streaming more than 80 games live to their subscribers globally from WUCC.
“We are very excited once again to partner with WFDF for one of their major World Ultimate events. This partnership shows Fanseat’s commitment in growing Ultimate and its fan base around the globe,” said Fanseat General Manager Jean-Maël Gineste.“Not only will Fanseat be livestreaming all matches from the WUCC’s main two fields, but we will also produce an extra field exclusively for Fanseat subscribers dedicated primarily to European teams taking part in WUCC this year.”
USA Ultimate will carry all Field A and B games plus the Finals on its social media channels. Games will also be available on the WFDF Facebook page and the WFDF YouTube Channel.
“It’s exciting to see WUCC back on American soil for the first time in 16 years, and USA Ultimate is honored to welcome an incredible delegation of international competitors to Ohio for what’s sure to be an amazing showcase of world-class Ultimate,” said DeAnna Ball, USA Ultimate board president.
Stadium will televise and livestream the three Finals matches in the United States and globally on July 21. Viewers in the United States will be able to watch the games on Stadium via broadcast television channels where available (check your local listings) and fans nationally and worldwide will be able to access the Finals on its digital platforms including WatchStadium.com, the Stadium iOS, tvOS and Android apps, Twitter (@WatchStadium) and dedicated channels on Roku and Pluto TV. The Men’s Finals are scheduled for 10 a.m.; the Women’s Finals at 12:30 p.m.; and Mixed Finals at 3 p.m. (all times EDT).
“We have seen tremendous excitement from the Ultimate community across our distribution platform,” said Stadium Managing Partner Andrew Schnell. “We are excited to provide a multiscreen platform for fast-growing, highly-engaged communities to experience their favorite sports content.”
As previously announced, Ultiworld will also be providing reliable, professional, and high-quality footage of the games at WUCC.
“Our coverage plans call for more than 200 hours from up to 124 games of live Ultimate, streamed online with our partners Stadium, Olympic Channel, World Games Channel, WFDF Facebook page, WFDF YouTube Channel, Ultiworld, and the distribution outlets of some of our leading national governing bodies,” said Executive Producer and WFDF Managing Director of Broadcasting Tim Rockwood. “For context, this is more hourly domestic coverage than that of the entire 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.”
WUCC 2018, the premier club championship event for Ultimate, will be held 14-21 July 2018. Some 3,000 athletes on 128 teams from 36 countries are competing and, for the first time, WUCC will have total gender balance, with 40 teams each in the Men’s and Women’s Divisions and 48 Mixed Gender teams.
