Introduces structures on safeguarding athletes from all forms of misconduct

The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that the Board of Directors has approved of the new WFDF Safe Sport Policy during its meeting on 20 September 2020. WFDF’s policy on safeguarding athletes and participants from discrimination, harassment and abuse shall describe the processes to help prevent this from occurring and define the procedures available to WFDF participants to bring forward a complaint related to a WFDF Event. It will also describe the consequences of a breach of this policy, including interim measures and specific sanctions. It consists of two parts: a Safe Sport Policy for WFDF events and WFDF Personnel (Part 1) and Guidelines for member National Federations on developing a policy for safeguarding participants from misconduct (Part 2).

“The aim of the WFDF Safe Sport Policy is to promote good practices, provide athletes of all ages with appropriate safety and protection while involved in the activities of WFDF, and to allow staff and volunteers to make informed and confident responses to specific safeguarding and athlete/child protection issues,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “WFDF believes that all athletes, staff and volunteers have the right to participate and develop their talents in disc sports in a safe and inclusive environment, free from all forms of misconduct, including discrimination, harassment and abuse, sexual or otherwise. WFDF is committed to devising and implementing policies to ensure that everyone within the organization accepts their responsibility to attempt to safeguard athletes and participants from harm and abuse by following procedures designed to safeguard them, and reporting any concerns about their welfare through established pathways.”

WFDF will be working with its National Federations to promote the adoption of national Safe Sport policies to address these issues on a local level.
