UK Sports Council recognizes UK Ultimate
16 November 2016
The World Flying Disc Federation (WFDF) is pleased to announce that its national member association in the United Kingdom, UK Ultimate, has been awarded formal recognition as the UK National Governing Body (NGB) for Ultimate by the home country sports councils: Sport England, sportNI, sportScotland and Sport Wales. Ultimate was officially recognized in the UK as a sporting activity in 2008.
“The formal recognition for UK Ultimate as the UK NGB is an important milestone on our way to get Flying Disc sports recognized at the highest level in each of our member countries,” stated WFDF President Robert “Nob” Rauch. “As recognized sports that are not on the Olympic Programme cannot obtain recognition by the British Olympic Association (BOA), UK Ultimate has now reached the highest level of national recognition possible at this point.”
“UK Ultimate is delighted to confirm that the organisation has been awarded formal recognition as the UK National Governing Body (NGB) for Ultimate … Following a lengthy application process we received official confirmation of the recognition decision … It is a notable milestone in the development of the sport in the UK,” per the UK Ultimate press release.
There are 13 member associations of WFDF which are recognized by their National Olympic Committees (NOCs), including Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Finland, Hong Kong China, Hungary, Japan, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States of America.
